Hi all,
A little about me.
I love Golf. I mean really love it. I took the game up in 2007 with a set of Powerbilt Graphite Genesis clubs and like most people who play today found the going very tough. But I'd always end up playing a shot that someone in the group would say "That'll get you back here next week". And it did.
I still play pretty ordinary golf at times and at best can string the odd par and bogie holes together to break 50. So this blog isn't coming from someone who's mastered the game and shares wisdom, just enthusiasm and passion for a a great social game.
I think Golf is best summed up by Arnold Palmer when he said;
“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening - and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented.”
I really believe this.
Tournament play aside you're always playing against yourself. Testing your mental strength (I have crumbled at times), integrity (you're only cheating yourself), and will to get that little white ball to go where you intended.
Hands up who remembers their first par hole? I do. Remember your first birdie? I do. How much practice had you put in to realize that little dream. Golf is all about baby steps and a series of firsts to me. My first par was like my first kiss, and my first birdie...well you know...let's say it felt brilliant.
The birdie was achieved with my new set of clubs which despite being fitted took a while to get used to. I bought a set of Cobra S2's 5 iron through to Pitching Wedge. We replaced the sandwedge with a 52 degree Gap Wedge to fit in between my Pitching Wedge and two 56 and 60 degree Vokey Wedges. I don't use all the wedges all the time. The 56 was bought before heading to Phuket where the grass is quite lush, and the 60 gets a lot of use on the harder Perth fairways where less bounce works well. Being a left hander and Phil Mickelson fan I do give the wedges a flogging and no doubt try to go to the air when a safer ground shot is in order. It's all in the name of fun.
(I hit my Pitching Wedge Flush and the ball was heading towards the carpark. The Golf Gods put this palm tree in the way. Since Thailand is a Buddhist country I thought it proper to thank nature for putting my ball back on the fairway for a two putt)
Next I'll be getting a driver. Definately this year sometime. I am not brand loyal so if anyone's got a reccomendation feel free to comment below. The Taylormade R11 might be a winner.
Have a good weekend and Happy Golfing.
